The campsite
Camping Le Marconnès is beautifully situated in the south of the Auvergne, known for its blue cheese Bleu d’Auvergne and Le Puy lentils. The thick walls of the buildings, such as the restaurant, auberge and sanitary facilities, are constructed from large, irregular stones of different sizes. Here and there there are succulents growing from the wall. The unusual architectural style indicates a year of construction around 1600. There are still loopholes in the walls and there is a bread oven. The view is unique and expansive, with a beautiful view of valleys and mountain peaks. On the horizon you look out over a mountain range including the famous 1800 meter high Mont Mézenc. This mountain is 60 km away. From spring until late summer, the surrounding meadows are full of wild flowers. At the edge of the meadows (within a 10-minute walk), the forests with cedars, pine trees and spruces begin. Wild boar and deer are hunted here in the autumn. The enormous birds of prey are always impressive to see.
Facilities
We have a restaurant where cooking is done daily and you can enjoy a tasty daily special or menu. We also offer a bread service and refreshments are available in the bar all day long (drinks, ice cream). Adjacent to the restaurant is a small flea market and of course we have a swimming pool to cool off from the wonderful day or to laze around. For enthusiasts there is an opportunity to use the sauna.
Environment
Le Marconnès is located at an altitude of 1100 meters, on the border of the departments Lozère, Ardèche and Haute-Loire. The Loire and Allier rivers flow 10 km away. Here you will see many old castles. The beautiful nature, the many relaxation options and sights make this area a wonderful place to spend a holiday. There is a small supermarket 6 km away in Landos, and in the larger towns a little further away there are larger and more supermarkets and shops. There is a nice market to visit in the area almost every day of the week. You can also take beautiful cycling and walking tours from the campsite and in the surrounding area (routes available), visit waterfalls or gorges. But also cayoning, paragliding, canoeing and rafting possibilities (within a radius of 30 km). The town of Le Puy en Velay is the starting point of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compestella. The city is a UNESCO heritage site, including the Statue Notre Dame de la France and the basilica, well worth a visit. There are three lakes in our area for recreation, and fishing is also possible.
